NuvaRing Side Effects Lawsuits
NuvaRing is a vaginally inserted form of birth control that works in a fashion similar to the more commonly prescribed orally administered birth control pill by releasing low doses of medication each day. It is a 2″ diameter ring that is made of flexible plastic and is inserted in the vagina once a month. NuvaRing is manufactured by Merck and was approved by the FDA in 2001 and was first marketed in the United States in July 2002.
Once the NuvaRing is inserted, it releases low doses of ethinyl estradiol and etongestrel each day to as a pregnancy prevention measure. Because it is only administered once each month, many women find it easier to use than the oral contraceptives that must be taken daily because it is easier to remember. Once inserted, it is left in the body for three weeks and then removed for one week, during which the menstrual period should take place. After the break week, a new NuvaRing is inserted for the next month’s pregnancy prevention. Since it began to be marketed in the United States, about 300 instances of serious health problems related to NuvaRing side effects have been reported.
NuvaRing Side Effects:
- Stroke
- Heart Attack (Myocardial Infarction)
- Blood Clots
- Pulmonary Embolism
Because of the seriousness of these NuvaRing side effects, over 100 NuvaRing lawsuits have been filed. The hormones released by NuvaRing may make the blood clot more easily. If blood clots in the legs travel to the lungs, a serious blockage can occur. Higher risk of stroke and heart attack means you are at a higher risk of serious disability or even death.
