NuvaRing is a vaginally inserted form of birth control that works in a fashion similar to the more commonly prescribed orally administered birth control pill by releasing low doses of medication each day. Once inserted, it is left in the body for three weeks and then removed for one week, during which the menstrual period should take place. After the break week, a new NuvaRing is inserted for the next month’s pregnancy prevention. Since it began to be marketed in the United States, about 300 instances of serious health problems related to NuvaRing side effects have been reported.
