Yasmin Lawyer

Yaz/Yasmin (drosperinone and ethinyl estradiol) is a drug manufactured by Bayer Pharmaceuticals as a low-dose oral contraceptive to prevent pregnancy.  This drug was approved for the treatment of mild acne in women in addition to being used for birth control.

The FDA mandated Bayer to update their warning on Yaz/Yasmin labeling in 2011 to show the increased blood clotting risks in the arms and legs.  This was the result of a study showing that there was a 75% greater risk of clotting in women who used Yaz/Yasmin as opposed to other similar drugs.  The difference is that Yaz/Yasmin and its generic counterparts are the only oral contraceptives that contain the progestin drospirenone, which can elevate potassium levels.  Increased potassium levels in the blood can create the condition of hyperkalemia. When blood clots move to the brain, they can cause strokes to occur.  As you can see, there are some serious Yaz/Yasmin side effects that women using this drug need to be aware of.

Yaz/Yasmin Side Effects:

  • Blood clots
  • DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis)
  • Stroke
  • Pulmonary embolism
  • Death

The number of Yaz/Yasmin lawsuits that have been filed has continued to grow as more women have experienced the serious Yaz/Yasmin side effects and health complications.  The British Medical Journal reported 40 venous thrombosis cases connected to this drug in 2002, and many more cases have surfaced since then, with additional Yaz/Yasmin lawsuits being filed.
